Bacterial suspensions of Ps. aeruginosa and B. subtilis cultivated in Brain-Heart Infusion Broth and these mixture were added to the suspended rabbit macrophages in the serum of normal rabbit and Cell-Maintenance Fluid (CMF).
After an incubation period of 30 and 60 minutes at 37´C, the bacteria-macrophage suspensions were investigated as regard to the percentage of macrophages with intracellular organisms and the percentage of intracellular organisms.
Result of observation were summerized as follows:
1. In the Ps. aeruginosa-macrophage suspension;
The percentages of macrophages with intracellular organisms were 15 % after 30 minutes, 29% after 60 minutes in normal rabbit serum, and 11.5% and 46% after 30 and 60 minutes in CMF respectively. The percentages of~-intracellular organisms in normal rabbit serum were 97% after 30 and 60 minutes, and 92% after 30 minutes, 96% after 60 minutes in CMF.
2. In the B. subtilis-macropage suspension;
The percentages of macrophages with intracellular organisms in normal rabbit serum were 16% after 30 minutes, 26 % after 60 minutes, and 27% after 30 minutes, 44i 5 % after 60 minutes in CMF. The percentage of intracellular organisms were 82% after 30 minutes, ~% after 60 minutes in normal rabbit serum, and 73 % after 30 minutes, 93 % after 60 minutes in CMF´.
3. In the bacterial mixture-macrophage suspension;
The percentages of macrophages with intracellular organisms were 30 % after 30 minutes, 35 % after 60 ipinuyes in normal rabbit serum, and 53.5% after 30 minutes, 57.5% after 60 minutes in CMF. The percentages of intracellular organisms were 87.5% after 30 minutes, 93% after 60 minutes in normal rabbit serum, and 77% after 30 minutes, 87o after 60 minutes in CMF.
